Meet Our Founder

Sheila OhstromSheila Ohstrom, Founder and Owner of Senior Home Care & Alzheimer's Solutions, is a certified trainer and coach in the Positive Approach® to Care program, developed by Teepa Snow.
Sheila opened Senior Home Care & Alzheimer's Solutions in 2010 after having her own experiences with friends and family needing care. These experiences gave her the desire to find qualified people to help keep loved ones in their own homes for as long as possible.
Sheila is a graduate of Alfred University (’91) and has a wide variety of experience in various industries that makes her a truly unique provider.
She is involved in the Fayetteville Senior Center, Manlius Senior Center, Fayetteville-Manlius Chambers and WBOC (Women Business Opportunities Connection). She has experience teaching, care-giving, fundraising and is involved in her church.
Meet Our Team of Caring Professionals
We are proud of each member of our team. All our caregivers are specially trained in the Positive Approach® to Care techniques, giving them insight into the best ways to help people with dementia. They are all bonded, insured and background-checked. Most importantly, they have passion for the people we serve!
Bernadette
PAC Trainer, Sales and Marketing
Bernadette joined Senior Home Care Solutions in 2012. She is a Dementia Care Training Specialist, schooled under Teepa Snow, the world’s renowned leading advocate in dementia care and the creator of the Positive Approach to Care™.
Bernadette worked as an underwriter and claims adjuster for a personal lines insurance company where she trained new employees for these roles.
In her free time, she enjoys being with her family, being outdoors and running trails with her friends.
Kelly
PAC Trainer
Kelly joined Senior Home Care Solutions in 2019. She has a master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology with 25 years experience in communication disorders. Her passion comes from caring for her ailing mother who recently passed of Alzheimer’s Disease and Vascular Dementia. She is a certified PAC trainer and a certified Consultant who trains healthcare professionals and consults with families.
Kristie
Scheduling, Billing
Kristie is a mom of three girls. She started working with the elderly as a Beautician in a nursing home. She was also a part-time caregiver for her grandmother who suffered from Alzheimer’s disease.
In her spare time, Kristie loves baking, crafting, fishing and walking her dog.
Amanda
Senior Companion
Amanda is currently going to school for nursing. As a teenager, she and her father would care for her great-aunt.
She has three dogs and a few other small animals at home. In her free time, Amanda enjoys hiking, crocheting, reading and photography.
Andrea
Senior Companion
Andrea also works as a security manager at the Everson Museum of Art. She is working on her master’s degree online. She has two teenage girls.
Andrea has two gentlemen with Down Syndrome who reside with her. They have been a part of her life for over ten years. She also has a household full of pets.
Andrea went to college for horse racing and training. She raced horses for a few years and then decided to switch careers.

Andrea is originally from NYC and have been living in the Syracuse area for the past 25 years. She is a college graduate with an English degree, is an avid reader and loves The Theater and movies.
Andrea recently retired from a position in a doctor's office she held for 24 years. She is an active grandmother of 8.

Angelica is a compassionate, understanding and kind person. She loves helping people and is a great listener and conversationalist.
She has two children and loves crafting (tumblers, ornaments, drawing and coloring), cooking and the outdoors.

I am a 60-year-old semi-retired woman, currently taking care of a friend's mother in her home.
I have a son, 31, who recently married the love of his life. I am truly blessed! I also have two fur babies - a Shih-Tzu dog named Sam and a cat name Emmie.

I received my BS and MS degrees from Springfield College in Massachusetts while also working full-time. I am most proud of the fact that I put myself through school. I have worked in social services for over 30 years and enjoy helping people.
I love my dogs and my gardening. I also love working around the house, doing painting and sheet-rocking.

Bethany has been married for over 25 years and is a mom to two adult children -- and is also a dog mom. She has been a stay-at-home mom for the past 20 years. She enjoys volunteering for the school district and for the organization Sleep In Heavenly Peace.
She is a college grad (Business) and has a background in sales and management.
Bethany enjoys hiking, skiing, cooking, puzzles, being outdoors and traveling. She embroiders tea towels of places she has visited. She enjoys being with family and friends. Some other hobbies include reading, kayaking and running.

She worked as a healthcare administrator for several years, then started a small consulting firm that helps businesses grow.

Jill grew up in Central Square and graduated with a degree in Cabinet Making and Environmental Studies at SUNY Morrisville. She lived in Alaska for eleven years building eco-friendly cabins.

Karen has worked in the banking industry in the areas of customer service, training, trust services and management for over 25 years. She has spent 8 years as a dental receptionist working in offices in Syracuse, Richmond, KY and Queensbury, NY.
Karen has been married for 40+ years and she and her husband have raised two children together. She helped care for her mother who suffered from Alzheimer’s for over 10 years. She also helped care for other elderly relatives helping them with errands. Karen’s biggest enjoyment in life and in work is working with and being with people. She also enjoys reading, traveling, walking and spending time with family.

As a child, my first friends were my grandparents and their friends. As a teenager, I volunteered at nursing homes, visiting elderly or disabled people.
I worked with families and seniors in a number of positions in Syracuse and Indiana. My roles included: outreach worker/advocate, nutrition tech and hospice volunteer. Those experiences made me realize I should go back to school to become an L.P.N.
I worked in a dementia/alzheimers unit for a few years and then as a Home Health Aide/Nurse for 11 years. I took care of my parents in my home and retired last year. I'm reentering the job market working for this agency a second time. I am married and have three grandchildren. I enjoy walks, travel, reading, cooking and gardening, nature and music.

Kathleen is a semi-professional cook. She worked for many area restaurants in all different aspects of the business, including a lot of bartending and catering.
She had a stained glass business for 15 years and has recently gotten into it again.

Michelle’s first experience with Alzheimer’s diesease was with her father. “It is a heartbreaking disease,” says Michelle. “I learned to be patient, understanding and not to argue.” Michelle volunteered at Syracuse Home for about a year.
Michelle has a bachelor’s degree from Kean University in New Jersey. She lives in Baldwinsville with her husband and Chinese Crested Powder Puff, Bogey. She enjoys golf, SU football, basketball and gardening.
